Why A Catamaran

For 16 seasons we have focused on delivering the very best whale and wildlife experiences available from St. Andrews. We hate to disappoint, we love being in the company of whales and we like to exceed your expectations. The challenge we face in reaching these goals has always been the inconsistent nature of weather and wildlife. The weather is not always perfect and whales are not confined to one area. The capabilities of a catamaran provide us with more options in reducing the impacts that the environment plays in determining a successful excursion. Our catamaran can keep all passengers warm and dry - it provides the space to allow unobstructed viewing - when required it has the speed to go the distance and it does it with less motion than single hulled vessels of similar or smaller size. We've operated other vessel types, but for getting the job done the catamaran can't be beat.

Sighting Success - The Facts!

Whales feed in many locations of the Bay of Fundy and not always in the same location. With the help of our Scout Boat and the capabilities of our Catamaran we can search and visit more of these areas. These factors provide our guests with St. Andrews' highest success rate, especially in regards to humpback whales.

Unlike the more common minke and finback whales, humpbacks will commonly raise their tails when they dive. If you want the opportunity to observe humpbacks from St. Andrews and get that "tail shot" you need to ensure your choice of operator can and is intending to go the distance. The very high majority of humpback whale sightings occur in the open waters of the Bay, more than 30 kms from St. Andrews.
